Route Planning

I've picked our route- the popular Dorsal Arête, Grade II-

Our guide give us a hint that our approach to the route is very steep and tiring and that we would be better suited going the longer but mostly flat route up an adjacent valley which adjoins it near the top, so we choose to do this instead-

Finally we add a few emergency exits, just in case something goes wrong, the first involves walking down the left hand side of the ridge instead of the right (E.G. This would be a good decision if it meant the wind was at your back for the decent)

I have also had a wee look at the guide and can see that broad gully which ran down the side of dorsal arête would be a handy way of rapidly retreating from the route.

In the simplest form we can forgo the 'summit' and just bag the route and go home-
