What do you do when your at the top of a climb on a windy day with rain in your face and you cant see over the overhang and your hungover??? You shout!      But not just any oul garbage... Below is a list of Calls that are essential for climbing-

Before the climb:

(In order)

"Climb when ready" - Signal to climber that the belayer is ready.

"Climbing" - Signal to belayer that the climber is starting to climb.

"OK" - Signal to climber that the belayer knows that the climber has started.

During the climb:

"Take in" - Signal to the belayer that there is too much slack on the rope.

"Slack" - Signal to the belayer that the rope is too tight.

"Watch me" - Signal to belayer that the climber is worried he might fall, basically this mean pay attention.

"Falling" - Signal to the belayer that the climber is about to fall, the belayer must take in as much slack as possible and brace himself.

"Resting" - Signal to belayer that the climber wishes to take a break, the belayer takes in all the slack and the climber hangs on the rope.

After the climber is rested/bored he signals to the belayer by saying "Climbing", the belayer then replies with "OK".

"BELOW" - Signal to anyone that something is falling.

"Agggggg" - Signal to belayer that the climber has fallen un-expectingly.

At the top:

(In order)

"Safe" - Signal to the belayer that the climber has protected himself and no longer requires belaying.

"Off Belay" - Signal to climber that the belayer has stopped and released the rope from their belay device.

Now the belayer ties into the other end of the rope and prepares to climb, the climber becomes the belayer and commences taking in the rope

"Take in" - Signal to the belayer to take in the slack on the rope before the second climber starts.

"That's me" - Signal to belayer that all of the slack rope is taken in.
